NAHB Benefits & Services Overview

POWER OF MEMBERSHIP

Your membership provides you with increased opportunities to build business relationships, become involved in your community, increase your professional credibility, gather important information and be part of the voice driving your industry.

You are not only a member at the local level when you join but also at the state (HBAT) and national level (NAHB).  This is your 3-in-1 membership!  You become part of the 250,000+ member network!  Even though NAHB is staffed by 350 professionals in Washington, DC, it is driven by YOU! NAHB will help drive your voice to the National level.

NAHB LEADERSHIP & ADVOCACY

NAHB’s board is approximately 2,800 in size.  Those appointed to the board at their local associations should be willing and able to attend meetings for the good of the members they represent.

The board meets three times per year – in the Spring, Fall and then during the International Builders Show (IBS).

NAHB’s leadership changes at IBS. The executive board is elected at IBS and the chairmen of committees and councils are appointed by the president.

NAHB’s Regional Network consists of five regions each with Senior Officer oversight and 15 Areas (3 states per Area) represented by a National Vice President.  Each state has a National Representative and each Region has two EOC Regional Directors (elected by EOC).  Each region also has a Regional Field Director and Regional Field Representative.  This structure creates the backbone for grassroots involvement of members.  Members meet at area caucuses at BOD meetings.

Lobby elected officials and agencies work to adopt regulations that benefit you and create a voice for you at the national level.  NAHB’s Public Affairs department works hard to advocate your issues to be sure your voice is heard on Capital Hill.

NAHB’S QUICK ISSUES INDEX

This is provided as a member benefit found on NAHB’s web site: www.nahb.org/issuesindex.  Highlights are:

Alternative Minimum Tax: NAHB is fighting to avoid a massive tax increase on real estate that would disrupt the investment relationship between developers and builders.  If enacted into law, the bill would subject capital gains income generated by carried interest to tax rates of up to 35% as opposed to the current rate of 15%.  This would be an increase of over 133% impacting jobs, economic growth and the tax base.

National Green Building Standard: NAHB is committed to helping members take advantage of arising opportunities in green building while avoiding inflexible, unworkable and costly mandates.  Find the latest developments at: www.nahb.org/greenbuildingprogram

NAHB.ORG

NAHB’s dynamic online resources provide business management tools, housing and legislative issues/information and updates, educational opportunities, meetings and events, housing and economic data and information on committees and councils.

Electronic publications keep you up to speed on the nations building news, specific information for executive officers, economic data and information and other targeted resources relating to today’s changing housing environment.
